Left, Right, and Wrong

Fuzzy Logic

Left

The logical left brain, good at computing math, reading, writing and process driven outcomes.

This is the basis for thinking rational thoughts and predicting our analysis for our trading results.

Right

The right side of the brain is best known as the expressive and creative side. The right brain is more visually oriented and deals with images more than words.

Wrong

Right or wrong, we will never know for sure until hindsight. We can use our left and right brain combined to give us an edge and consider “probabilities”.

The notion of left brain versus right brain dominance has some basis in fact, but represents a false dichotomy. The complexity of the brain involves features on both sides working together, often communicating with each other through the center (Beaumont, 2008).

Analysts

Analysts need to create ANAL LISTS. Do this, do that. Follow a rigorous set of rules.

Sigh.

Traders need to TAKE ACTION and MANAGE RISK. We need to make decisions with incomplete information.

Play the Game at Both Ends

Watching my grandson George play basketball is a great lesson for traders. He has talent, but he has developed his Spirit, Mind, and Body with a passion every day. Since he was one year old he was shooting baskets. I could see then how he was a natural. He is a sophomore playing Varsity ball. He scored 20 points out of the team’s 60 – 57 win with three threes and a few clutch foul shots in the last minute of play.

He’s a winner, but humble.

He also knows  that off days and losing is part of the package.

Offense: Get the ball, dribble, pass or shoot.  Do it over and over, ignoring the results and stay in the flow.

Defense: Box them out, deny the ball, block shots, get rebounds and  understand the other team will get their chance to score as well.

Just get out and play the game. Relax, and play in the zone. Unconscious and confident in our offensive and defensive skills.
